Good Sleep promotes Active Wellness…

Happy Family in bed Blog Banner

Sleep is the best medicine for your body and mind. Getting the recommended 7-8 hours per night keeps us healthy and balanced and improves our overall quality of life.

When you’re asleep, your body restores itself – which is why next to eating well and exercising, getting enough sleep is the most important thing you can do for your health. But how can you best prepare yourself for a restful night? Meditating and reading a book before bedtime can help, but here are a few more surprising behaviours that signal to body and mind that you’re ready to get some shuteye…

Here are some examples:

1. Create a bedtime ritual. It doesn’t have to be complicated, as long as you do it every night and start to associate it with sleep. A good night’s sleep starts with a moment of calm so set aside time to relax. Try lighting a scented candle in your bedroom just before you get into bed. The small flame is a visual cue that it’s time to relax, while the comforting fragrance will also have a calming influence on you.

2. Keep cool and get a breath of fresh air. Studies show that the optimal temperature for sleeping is around 18.5 degrees1, so keeping your bedroom cool is a must. Ventilation is also beneficial – the new air circulating throughout the room promotes a deeper sleep, so whenever possible, try to sleep with the window slightly ajar.

3. Make your bed comfortable. Did you know that over eight to ten years you’ll spend more than 26,000 hours sleeping in your bed! You can enhance the comfort of your bed with a simple Sleep Pad that fits on top of your main mattress. Nikken’s Naturest® KenkoPad® is designed to provide a very gentle relaxing massage-effect while sleeping, enhancing your overall sleep environment.

4. Enjoy physical activity. This will allow you to fall asleep faster and enjoy a deeper sleep. Physical activityimproves sleepquality and increases sleepduration2. Exercise may also bolster sleep in other ways, because it reduces stress and tires you out. It can be especially helpful if you are able to exercise outdoors and let your body absorb natural sunlight during the daytime hours.

5. Keep in sync with your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. This is one of the most important strategies for sleeping better. If you keep a regular sleep-wake schedule, you’ll feel much more refreshed and energized than if you sleep the same number of hours at different times, even if you only alter your sleep schedule by an hour or two.

6. Wind down and clear your head. Lie down in bed, close your eyes and practice breathing exercises. Inhale through your nose and exhale as much as possible through your mouth. Repeat a few times. Make sure you put all electronic devices away. Using them before sleeping will only wire up your brain3.

Get a good night’s sleep, relax your body and mind and enjoy an Active Wellness lifestyle!

Longer days of sunshine are on the way…

Sleep Blog banner

Daylight Saving Time (DST), also called ‘Summer Time’ in many places in the world, is to make better use of daylight and starts on the 31st March. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.

Although changing to DST only involves an hour’s difference (losing an hour in the spring and gaining one in the autumn), there can be a wide range of responses. Some of us don’t feel a difference at all, while others may experience a few days of fatigue from a change in sleep patterns due to having to reset our 24-hour natural cycle known as “circadian rhythm.”Internally generated, our circadian rhythm may be influenced by the environment, behaviour and medications.2

In general, losing an hour in the spring is more difficult to adjust to than gaining an hour in the fall.It is similar to airplane travel; traveling east we lose time and may experience difficulty falling asleep at the “earlier” time. Going west, we may fall asleep easily at the “later” hour but have a difficult time waking.

If you have the foresight to plan ahead for losing that hour of sleep, you can go to bed 15 to 20 minutes earlier than usual for a few nights leading up to the time change. This may help your brain and body make the transition more smoothly. You can also expose yourself to sunlight as early in the morning as you can. This tells your internal clock that it’s time to get moving. If sunlight is unavailable where you live, use bright lights to simulate natural light to enhance mental and physical alertness.5

For some people, it can take as long as a week for their circadian and sleep rhythms to adjust to the time change. Regular exercise at the same time daily may help you get back on track, as well as going to bed and rising on a schedule.6

To help block out light, which can aide for a better sleep, wear the Kenko PowerSleep® Mask with patented DynaFlux® magnetic technology. Enjoy a restful, refreshing sleep every night with the Naturest® Kenkopad®, KenkoDream® Quilt and Naturest® Pillow, all available in the Wellness Home Sleep Pack.

Basic Health Trends for 2019

Blog banner KVB

An increasing number of people are looking for an Active Wellness lifestyle. Here’s a look at some of the predicted health trends for 2019 and… how Nikken products continue to be contributors to these trends.

1. Adaptogenic herbs are finding their way into everyday food and drinks. Adaptogenic herbs can now be found in coffee bars and tea shops.Adaptogens are also found in KENZEN Cleansedx and in KENZEN Lactoferrin 2.0®!

2. New and improved gadgets are appearing to help us recover quicker from strenuous activities. According to CEO Martin Tobias of Upgrade Labs, “Modern recovery technologies use stronger signals like vibration, infrared light, targeted compression, intense cold, intense heat, powerful detoxification and advanced nutrition to speed recovery and development.”The KenkoTouch® and the MagCreator are the perfect products to help in the natural rejuvenation of muscle fatigue.

3. Last year, sales of plant-based meat (a vegetarian meat substitute) grew to 23% and is forecast to continue expanding in 2019. Plant-based dairy was 13% of all milk sales in 2018 and also expected to grow in 2019. Plant–based fish and seafood, which reported sales increase of 72% from 2017 to 2018, is predicted to really expand in a big way. PowerPlant Ventures says, “If awareness of the negative impacts of ocean fishing and contaminants spread quickly, plant-based fish could follow the plant-based meat market in its recent accelerated growth.”3

4. As awareness of the importance of sleep for overall health grows, people are tracking their sleep patterns to find ways to improve the quality of their resting hours. According to virtually every sleep expert, it’s important to maintain a consistent sleep-wake schedule including waking up and going to bed at the same time and not deviating too much on weekends or days off from work. At Nikken, we believe the Kenko Sleep System can help poor sleepers achieve their best rest!

5. Digestive health is set to become a significant trend in 2019. The Kroger Company states that “medical studies show that a healthy gut is the foundation of overall wellness and more than ever before, consumers are seeking foods that support self-care and healthy immune systems.”4 KENZEN Lactoferrin 2.0® and KENZEN Digestion Complex 4-20 can help support optimal digestion, nutrient absorption, the proliferation of good gut bacteria and overall health.

As we continue to live in a world where instant gratification is so desired, fast food is not going away. The good news is that there is a growing trend toward healthy eating in the form of meal replacement shakes, salads to go and nutrient-dense take-out food. According to Mintel, a market research firm that forecasts data for thousands of consumer goods markets worldwide, “On-the-go consumers are shopping for grab and go breakfasts, quick snacks and dinner time solutions. Consumers are expecting high-quality food and beverage options that fit into their fast-paced, time-crunched lifestyles without having to sacrifice health goals or flavour.”5

Look no further than KVB® Meal Replacement Mix – Chocolate (# 16011), currently on offer at ½ price, which can be a meal or a snack, depending on your needs. It’s convenient and versatile, suitable for vegans and contains MCTs for your brain! It is an instant meal that supports the GI tract with an enzyme blend combined with probiotics.

Good sleep promotes good health…

Sleep Promo Banner ENG

AUTUMN 2018 is in full swing and as we are heading towards the winter season, the days will get shorter and the nights will get longer.

But will that extra time of darkness help you sleep better?

Experts say that in general, people do tend to sleep a little longer in the wintertime, compared to the summertime. But the few minutes of extra darkness on the winter solstice itself may not be enough to make a noticeable difference to people’s sleep habits, compared to how they sleep on the days before and after the solstice. The Sleep Council Organisation in the United Kingdom advises that, an adult should sleep between seven and nine hours a day1.

The average individual will spend around a third of their life asleep. During this time, the body is able to replenish energy stores and make repairs, while the brain would organise and store the memories from the day before. The amount of sleep you need depends on your age, sex, health and other elements, with sleep cycles changing, as we grow older.

When it comes to sleep – your bedroom is your sanctuary where you can retrieve and forget about the stresses of the day. Follow these helpful tips in order to benefit from a well rested, refreshing and invigorating sleep:

1. Go Tech-Free… reading a paper book or magazine before bed helps make your eyelids feel heavy. But scrolling through your phone, tablet or computer almost guarantees the opposite effect, keeping you awake for longer.

2. Open your window! Temperature plays an important role in the onset of sleep and circadian rhythms.Feeling hot and sticky is not only physically uncomfortable; it can prevent your body from settling into deep sleep and reaping the good hormones released in deeper stages of rest.

3. Invest in a good mattress. Your bed plays one of the biggest roles in determining how long and how well you sleep. Your bed and your body naturally change over time (they’re both ageing!), so if your mattress is seven years or older, it’s probably time to replace it. Older mattresses do not provide the support you need for restful sleep and need to be replaced. Making this one improvement can help you benefit from nights of blissful sleep. Your pillows should also be replaced regularly to make sure you are getting the adequate support for your neck and spine.

Nikken offers you the perfect solution with its innovative sleep technologies. Take advantage of our Special ‘Head for Bed’ Sleep Offer running 1st– 31st October 2018:

* 10% discount on the Naturest® KenkoPad®KenkoDream® Quilt and Naturest® Pillow.

JT Banner

Nikken’s Rest and Relaxation products are designed to conveniently fit into your everyday daily life.

Nikken’s magnetic technologies have developed over the past 37 years to provide a supportive environment for our bodies and to help restore balance and relaxation.

While the Nikken Sleep products are designed to support in the body’s natural recovery process each night, the magnetic applications featured within the rest of the Rest and Relaxation category are designed to continue the support throughout the rest of the day and evening, including activities such as sport.

At Nikken we’re proud to have athlete Jack Turner’s endorsements for some of the Rest and Relaxation products and the PiMag®Water Bottle, which he used during his recent global athletic achievements…

Introducing – Jack Turner
English Schools under-20 Decathlon National Champion – 2018
All time British No.1 under-18 Decathlete – 2018
Qualified & selected for ‘Team GB’ under-18 European Championships in Hungary – 2018
English Schools under-17 Octathlon Champion – 2017
England Silver Medalist at Home International Pentathlon -2017
British under-17 outdoor High Jump Silver Medalist – 2017

At just 16 years old Jack Turner became the English Schools under-17 2017 Octathlon champion when he won Gold in Boston, UK.  Jack went on to represent England at the Schools International Athletics Board (SIAB) Home Internationals in Glasgow, Scotland where he won Silver for the indoor Pentathlon.

This year, Jack has competed in his first ever Decathlon at the Somerset County Championships. He then went on to compete in the National Championships winning the under-18 British Standards competition, exceeding the European entry standard. This led to him being selected for Team GB to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Hungary.  It was at this prestigious competition that Jack set a new British Record. A few months later he went on to compete in his first under-20 Decathlon and achieved the gold medal and another national title.  At the end of the 2018 outdoor season Jack is ranked 6th in Europe, 6th in the world for under-18 Decathlon and 4th in the UK for under-20s Decathlon. He’s aiming high for the championships next year!

Jack often uses Nikken products when competing in athletics around the world.  We asked Jack to share some of his experiences using the Nikken products:

“I found the KenkoTherm® Support Wrap for the knee really supportive, especially since I hyper extended my knee last year long jumping. Wearing it helps me both physically and mentally.  The tight and comfortable fit meant that for a long period of time I couldn’t compete without it on.

The Kenko MagDuo® I found myself using a lot. In preparation for Europeans I would use it on small muscles and joints for some release.

I used the Nikken KenkoTouch® on my inflamed tendon, that I picked up during a decathlon, days before another competition. I used it at night just before I went to bed and felt that it really helped overnight and I performed well the following day.

I have a Nikken PiMag® Waterfall Gravity System at home, so to be able to carry around a filtered water bottle in the PiMag®Water Bottle, with me when I compete was reassuring, especially when competing abroad.”

Other items in the Rest and Relaxation range include Nikken sleep products, magnetic insoles, mini magnets, magnets for massage, supporting wraps and tape, jewellery and seat pad.  Plus, benefit from the Sleep Pack and Energy Pack, saving an instant 10%.

Everyone can use a Natural Energy Boost!

beach-sea-nature-horizon-silhouette-light-1188436-pxhere.com.jpg

Energy is defined as the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity. In other words, energy is integral to what sustains us and gives us vitality. Everyone needs energy but many of us lack it.

Every time something gets warm, cools down, moves, grows, makes a sound or changes in any way, it uses energy. Science classifies energy into two categories – kinetic (moving) and potential (stored) energy.1 For example, the food a person eats contains chemical energy and a person’s body stores this energy until he or she uses it as kinetic energy during work or play.2

Energy can change between potential and kinetic. Water at the top of a waterfall has stored potential energy but as the water begins to fall, it changes from potential to kinetic energy. When we create energy from hydropower, we harness the kinetic energy of the water for our own use.1 Radiant energy is another type of kinetic energy that includes visible light, X-rays, electromagnetic energy and radio waves.

Nikken could help you boost your kinetic energy with advanced magnetic and ceramic reflective fiber technologies. The Energy Pack is composed of Kenko (Japanese for “health”) and KenkoTherm products that incorporate these technologies. The Energy Pack is essential to an Active Wellness lifestyle and is designed to help support your maximum mobility and overall physical wellbeing.

The Energy Pack can appeal to people in all stages of activity: from the college athlete to the weekend warrior, from people who work on their feet all day to those who are not as active in their job. Whether you are a performance driven competitor or simply need to help soothe muscular and joint discomfort, the Energy Pack contains just the right product sampling to keep you on the Active Wellness path.

Dreams Come True… with Restful Sleep

Sleep Blog banner - ENG

Studies show that getting a good, restful night’s sleep may help improve learning and problem solving skills by enhancing your ability to pay attention, make decisions and be creative.

It’s a well-known fact that getting enough sleep is paramount in helping you function well. But the reality is that many adults and children suffer from sleep deprivation. Studies show that sleep deficiency may even alter activity in some parts of the brain that control emotions and behavior.1

Some people are so used to not getting enough sleep that they no longer pay attention to the risks of sleep deficiency. In fact, they may not even realize that they’re sleep-deficient and think that they are functioning well. For example, drowsy drivers may feel capable of driving. Yet, studies show that sleep deficiency harms your driving ability as much as, or more than, being drunk.1

In addition to a regular bedtime, your sleep environment and what you sleep on can make a huge difference in your pursuit of Active Wellness. Nikken has been championing the importance of sleep long before it became a hot topic and continues to advocate for an advanced magnetic sleep experience. This month, the newly launched Wellness Home – Sleep Packs are designed to help you sleep well and reap the health benefits, whilst building a viable business when you share it, sell it and sponsor new people with it.

The Sleep Packs comes in a variety of sizes to ensure a good fit for your bed. You’ll be sleeping on patented DynaFlux® technology, and once you try it, you’ll want to stay with it forever. Plus, when you purchase any of the Sleep Packs, you save 10% off the price of purchasing each item individually.

Make sleeping well your business… Because the Wellness Home Packs have raised PV (personal volume), they are ideal for promoting and selling to help you achieve monthly qualifications and rank advancement. For example, sponsoring one new Consultant with the Single Sleep Pack or selling one to a Customer, gives you an instant 750 PV, increasing up to 1,500 PV for the larger size Sleep Packs. Consultants can visit the Virtual Office for further information.

Special during our Pack launch month: Anyone who succeeded at the Summer Dash is qualified to receive free shipping on the Sleep Packs and any other Wellness Home Pack  throughout the month of August.
