Men’s health…

Men's health blog banner

Everyone knows the importance of a healthy lifestyle. If you have a busy schedule, you may find it hard to make time for regular exercise or find yourself eating a lot of takeout and junk food. But you can’t afford to be passive about your health.

Diet, exercise, sleep and stress management all count towards optimising men’s health at any age. Here are some key tips which could help towards men’s overall health and wellbeing.

Stay fit

There are some basic but very important things men should do regularly to stay in good health. Start exercising! Men (and all adults) need at least two-and-a-half hours a week of moderate – intensive aerobic activity, like a brisk walk. Plus, strength training at least twice a week, that helps work all major muscle groups.

Eat right

Consuming a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight are important in reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and other significant health issues. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. Experts recommend eating a balanced diet, which is high in fruit and vegetables and low in red and processed meat, fat and salt.

A UK study1 suggested that a high intake of plant foods, particularly tomato products, may benefit men’s health. Tomatoes are well known for containing lycopene, which is an antioxidant compound that gives tomatoes and certain other fruits their colour. Lycopene2 is an antioxidant that also protects our body cells from oxidants that have been linked to cancer. Two capsules of Nikken’s Kasai® for Men provide 6mg of high- quality lycopene, together with powdered garlic and pumpkin seed; this variety of Kasai® is designed to help contribute to men’s overall wellbeing.

Stick to a sleep schedule

Good “sleep hygiene” (things that promote regular, sound sleep) can help men lead healthier happier lives.

Look after your skin

Given today’s busy lifestyle, adequate skin care is just as important for men as for women. Environmental factors, as well as constant shaving, makes men’s skin sensitive and prone to skin conditions such as acne, dehydrated skin, dullness and shaving ingrowths. Nikken’s TRUE elements® Marine Organic skincare offers all the products necessary for a good skincare regime. Not just for women, but for men too! The TRUE elements® Youth Active Serum contains Ulva algae which helps natural cellular renewal plus hyaluronic acid, known to helpstimulate collagen synthesis which may help improve skins overall appearance.

Natures Secret Gift for Skin – Organic Skincare Science

TE Blog banner

Our skin is more than just an outer covering; it is the main defence against external injury. It is a living, breathing organ, the largest in the body. Much of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our body.

Choosing certified organic skincare can help give reassurance that the product is rich in ‘natural’ ingredients without the synthetic chemicals. The body cannot easily recognise and process synthetic chemicals and these ‘foreign’ substances, can sometimes accumulate in the tissues with the potential over time to cause an allergic skin reaction – such as contact dermatitis, eczema or breakouts.

It’s as important to decrease the toxic load on the skin as choosing a healthy (and organic!) diet. Using organic products also means that you are helping to support the sustainability of our environment.

Nikkens TRUE elements® Marine Organic Skincare range has been certified organic by ECOCERT, meaning the products have met strict standards set for its specified category.  This is a distinction that very few products – even those labelled as “organic” – can claim.

More facts about the TRUE elements range…

  • The ECOCERT certified TRUE elements® Marine Organic Skincare is also vegan

ECOCERT1 are the certification body for our skincare range and were the first certification body to develop standards for natural and organic cosmetics. They look at the use of ingredients derived from renewable sources and the environmentally friendly manufacturing process, as well as requiring 95% of the total ingredients to come from natural origin.

Vegan products are free from animal derived compounds (including milk, honey and beeswax) –  the TRUE elements® range does not contain any ingredients from animals at all so is suitable for use by vegans.

  • We use sustainably sourced seaweed

In France, where our skincare range is manufactured, the French government and     various other organizations manage the seaweed industry. They commit each year on quantities to harvest, the geographical place to harvest, sizes to cut and number of licenses for harvesters.

Everything is under control by satellite through the different Research Centers such as IFREMER2. They control the water quality and all the resources.

  • We use sustainably sourced Palm Oil

Our suppliers are certified with“Green Palm Sustainability”certificates.

  • We advise a ‘period after opening’ time so you know when your product is still in its optimum.

In Europe, cosmetic products with a lifespan of more than 30 months must show a ‘period after opening’ (POA) time. That is the time when the product will remain in optimum performance after the consumer has used the product for the first time. See the jar symbol with the ‘time’ in months shown inside.

  • No Bunny logo needed

In Europe it’s forbidden by law to test products on animals and that’s why we do not need to apply the ‘Bunny logo’ anymore.

  • Recycle your jars and tubes…

You can recycle your empty packaging at home in the suitable recyclable container.

Autumn Skincare Tips

Autumn Skincare blog headingAutumn is an ideal time to correct any summer skin damage that may have occurred and to prepare for winter. Here are some tips on how you could help maintain a hydrated complexion during the autumn and winter months.

  1. Choose a scrub/exfoliant that sloughs off dead skin but is gentle and helps stimulate natural oil production. It’s free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, mineral oils, phthalates, artificial colouring and preservatives. It provides gentle cleansing, that works with your natural pH balance to nourish the skin while removing impurities.
  3. True elements® Marine Organic Skincare, Nutritional Mask contains aloe vera to moisturise the epidermis, and hyaluronic acid plumps from the inside out, stimulating the synthesis of collagen which may help the skin appear firmer and smoother.
  4. As the air becomes drier, be sure to use a moisturiser to help reduce water loss from the skin. True elements® Marine Organic Skincare, Nourishing Face Cream is specifically formulated to moisturise the upper epidermis and to help soften and smooth the skin.

Happy Feet

v2 Happy Feet blog heading

We often hear the phrase ‘I’ve been on my feet all day’. This can be true for many of us, be it because of work, chasing after children all day, running errands or countless other day-to-day activities that can all take their toll on our feet.

Women in particular can be guilty of choosing fashion over function or comfort when it comes to footwear. Your feet take the weight of your whole body, so foot problems can quickly lead to discomfort and affect the way you walk. This can in turn cause knee, hip and back pain.

Research from The College of Podiatry shows that nine in 10 of us experience some sort of foot problem, with one in five admitting to suffering with foot pain often or constantly. Podiatrist Lorraine Jones says: “What this research shows is that a huge amount of people are willing to put up with sore, aching and painful feet.

She adds: “Your feet shouldn’t hurt on a daily basis. If you are experiencing discomfort it is usually because you aren’t wearing the right footwear. “[1]

There are certain things that we can do at home to make a real difference to our feet. Keeping feet clean and applying moisturiser morning and evening, may help keep feet soft and prevent a build up of hard skin. True elements® Hand & Foot Cream may help to soothe dry hands and feet, protecting and nourishing straight after application. It contains Shea butter, which is known to nourish skin and the seaweed extract chondrus, which has moisturisation properties.

As well as keeping hands and feet moisturised, wearing comfortable, well fitting shoes as often as possible can help relieve aching feet. Kenko mSteps® and Kenko mStrides® slip into your shoes and utilises Nikken’s DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology. Kenko mSteps® feature relaxing massage nodes on one side, inspired by reflexology practices, they may provide a massage effect that could help the whole body feel good from the feet upwards.

TRUE elements® Hand and Foot Cream (#2053) is currently on offer saving 50% until 31st August.

Top tips for summer skin hydration

Blog Skin Hydration -July 2017 ENG

Dry skin is often associated with the dry winter weather but it’s not unusual to notice dry skin in the summer as well. Follow our top tips – they may help to keep your skin hydrated this summer.

Step 1 – Moisturise your skin straight after a bath or shower, lightly pat your body and apply a light and non-greasy moisturiser such as TRUE elements® Moisturising Body Lotion. It is a light, hydrating, mineral rich daily moisturiser. Applying to slightly damp skin may help your skin absorb products more easily than applying them on to dry skin and may help lock in moisture.

Step 2 – Get your feet summer ready by applying TRUE elements® Hand and Foot Cream. Rich in shea butter, this cream provides additional moisture to hands, feet and nails. Apply throughout the day and last thing at night to let that moisture penetrate whilst you sleep.

Step 3 – Once a week, treat your face to an extra moisture boost. TRUE elements® Nutritional Mask will help rehydrate summer skin. This creamy moisturising mask is rich in minerals and is a perfect treat for your face.

Step 4 – Fluid Hydration- This is the most obvious but often-neglected skincare tip during summer… drink water!

For fresh, spring-like water try the PiMAG Waterfall® Gravity Water System. Add cucumber slices, watermelon or orange segments to your glass to enhance the flavour.

Step 5 – SAVE 50%
