Mindful ways to embrace Autumn…

Summer is ending, stepping aside for the autumn season in all its glory of red and gold nature colours. As a period of transition, autumn offers us the time needed to prepare for the winter season. A new season is a good time to re-evaluate, take decisions and start new projects. It’s also the perfect moment to be mindful of our own wellbeing.

Taking the time to be mindful is important for both our mental and physical health. Here are a few simple things that everyone can do to really appreciate the autumn season with mindful active wellness…

Get out into the fresh air and see nature in its finest… chances are, wherever you walk you’ll have an opportunity to admire autumn’s beauty – from the fiery colours of the autumn foliage to the frost on the ground. Being in nature can help us to feel alive, encourages a meditative mindset and may even help make us feel happier.

Practice meditation… Daily meditation can have many benefitsnot just on your body but also on your mind. It can help you get a better sleep, reduce stress and tension and relax your mind. There are many ways which meditation can be done including…

– Meditating for joyful gratitude – Giving thanks and taking a moment to appreciate what you have can rejuvenate your soul and after each session, you can take that sense of gratefulness with you for the rest of your day.

 – Metta meditation1Its goal is to cultivate an attitude of love and kindness toward everything including sources of stress.

– Mindfulness meditation is a way that allows you to remain aware and present in the moment. Rather than thinking of the past or dwelling on what’s to come, mindfulness encourages awareness of a person’s existing surroundings. For example, when you are on the phone with someone and you have been put on hold, rather than reflecting on the annoyance of a long wait, you will simply note the wait without judgement. This is where mindfulness meditation helps to combat emotional stress.

Nikken’s KenkoGround® 2 is the perfect accompaniment to meditation as it helps you reconnect with Mother Nature through grounding. The KenkoGround® helps connects you to the Earth’s negative charge when you are meditating and even working in front of your computer, doing yoga or exercising.

Sleep … Autumn is a time when the clocks change. We can all benefit from a little extra sleep. Try going to bed 30 – 60 minutes earlier than usual to help you feel more rested and energetic in the morning. Relaxing before bed is crucial for a good night’s sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation 3, having a massage before bed has great benefits and can help you relax – improving sleep quality.

You don’t need someone else to give you a massage, it’s just as easy to do yourself 4 with Nikken’s Kenko MagDuo®. A small portable device with small massaging nodules and DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology (U.S. Patent No. 9,265,966). Try rolling the spheres in small circles on the back of your neck and feel the tension melt away.

The Nikken MagCreator®, is another great massager and easy to use. Benefitting from surface nodules for that extra level of stimulation, roll it over stressed and tired muscle for a deep muscle massage – perfect for a good night’s sleep.

Autumn is truly a beautiful season. Enjoy the delights that autumn offers through its magnificent colours and enjoy living a life of Active Wellness through mindful self-care.

The Benefits of Self-Massage…

Self-massage is a simple, convenient way to enjoy the benefits of massage therapy and it can be done in the comfort of your own home. It has many physical and mental benefits, including helping with any discomfort and relaxation.

During a self-massage, you use your hands to manipulate your own muscles. This involves kneading the skin and applying pressure in certain spots. Like massage in general, self-massage may help ease: stress, anxiety, headaches, muscle strain, muscle tension and much more. You’re in control of the amount of pressure to exert and can stop it at any time.

There are different types of self-massage, some using just your own hands and others, using some kind of massage tool. Some forms of self-massage include Abhyanga from the Ayurvedic tradition, acupressure and trigger point.

The Ayurveda technique…

In the Ayurvedic tradition, self-massage with oil is a way to help keep yourself in optimal health and balance via the skin. Since skin is the body’s largest organ, Ayurveda recognizes it as a vehicle to reach our internal organs.1 The skin acts as a protective shield as well as a gateway to nourishing the body through its pores.

Self-massage also helps increase circulation and enhances the body’s ability to detox.2 The body tends to relax during massage and thereby helps reduce anxiety and improve sleep.3

Acupressure and trigger point massage work on the premise that certain spots throughout the body can be unlocked to release trapped energy or nerves.

– Acupressure… This technique works to release the “chi” (vital energy as defined by Merriam Webster) or more widely understood as “breath” and “air” that is necessary for the clear flow of blood and therefore circulation. With acupressure, simply press on the pressure points directly and hold for a while (10 –100 seconds).

– Trigger point massage focuses on releasing trigger points, which are small, tight knots that develop in muscles that may even cause discomfort in other areas of the body. It helps to release the tightest areas of your body (often the neck and lower back), helping to improve range of motion, posture and alignment. The technique is similar to acupressure orsmall kneading strokes can be applied, either in a circular motion or back and forth.4

The goal of self-massage with acupressure or trigger points is to achieve a “release.” Release mostly refers to an easing of sensitivity of the pressure/trigger point and/or a softening of the tissue texture.

Self-massage is an Active Wellness practice that can help benefit everyone. Nikken’s MagCreator® massage device incorporates surface nodules for deeper massage stimulation and its internal magnets simulate the Earth’s natural magnetic field.

With its massaging magnetic spheres, the Kenko MagDuo® is designed to offer you the perfect relaxing feeling. Its convenient size makes it ideal to be taken anywhere. Contains Nikken’s exclusive patented DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology (U.S. Patent No. 9,265,966).

Magnets and the Body…

The Magnet…

Magnets have been used successfully for centuries in different parts of the world. Naturally produced magnets are called Lodestones1and were used in ancient China, Japan, India, Egypt and Greece to help people enjoy better health.

A basic or dipole magnet is an iron based metal with its atomic structure as a line so energy is focused in a single direction. That energy exits the southpole and flows to the north, creating flux lines resulting in a cyclical pattern we call the magnetic field

Magnetism… a fundamental force in our lives.

Magnetism is at the very heart of our universe. In fact, Planet Earth is one huge magnet. It’s surrounded by a giant magnetic field that is cycling 360 degrees from onepole to another. This is what we call magnetosphere, which extends for thousands of miles beyond the surface of the earth and its role is to protect us from harmful radiation.

The Body…

One of the four basic natural forces of our environment is Electromagnetism – an ancient principle and an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which refers to the way that energies flow through our bodies and how they can affect our health. In recent decades, the Western cultures have also recognized these practices such as acupuncture.

Earth’s magnetic field has changed over the course of human history, declining approximately 50% from 3000 years agoand reversing its polarity quite a few times. In addition, we are also constantly surrounded by man-made EMFs (electromagnetic fields) because our modern industrialised society has found ways to interfere with the natural magnetic cocoon that our planet provides. These include radio, television, mobile phones, electricity poles, etc. It means that our biological systems are missing out on the natural principles on which they depend on.

Nikken Magnetics…

Nikken has been researching and developing magnetic technologies since 1975 with the launch of its first ever Magnetic Insoles – KenkoInsoles®. Since then, Nikken has continued its research and found that the more complex the magnetic fields, the more effective they are on the body.

Nikken’s magnetic products help to restore the conditions in which human beings have evolved to live and thrive by revolutionizing the magnet technology with its patented DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology (U.S. Patent No. 9,265,966). This technology features a series of individual magnets within an organized structure that places them in polar opposition, with positive or negative poles facing each other at several points. The result is an intensified magnetic field providing a deeper penetration as the magnets change position relative to each other. The polar shifts produce an active or dynamic magnetic field and this technology is the only one of its type that can create an active field using static magnets without the need for powered moving parts.

All Nikken magnets are static (without the need to use electricity) and they represent a fundamental part of our Rest and Relaxation line with wellness products such as the MagCreator®, Kenko MagDuo® and Kenko MagFlex®.

Embrace the Power of Spring…

Spring Blog banner

While every change of season seems to ignite the desire for a fresh start, it seems to be more prevalent when it comes to Spring.

With many of us seeing through this Spring from the comfort of our home it’s more important than ever that you take care of your physical health and emotional wellbeing.  It’s easy to build a few simple self-care rituals into your day that could help manage stress and anxiety, build mental and physical resilience and help navigate new challenges.

Introducing some form of exercise into your daily routine, to planning healthy meals and making space for mindfulness are all but a few ideas to staying healthy at home…

1. Be mindful. You can practise mindfulness anywhere, any time. Regular meditation can help you to let go of anxiety and any impatience you might be feeling.

2. Keep active. You don’t need a gym in order to stay active. According to the National Health Service England, to stay healthy, adults should try to be active every day and aim to achieve at least 150 minutes of physical activity over a week.1 There are plenty of activities you can do from; streaming workouts on line to getting some gardening done or even a brisk house clean.

3. Eat smart. Sticking to a healthy diet and building healthy meals from scratch can be a challenge at the best of times. Sticking to a three meals a day routine and incorporating enough fibre and protein into your meals will keep you fuller for longer. If you like to snack, make sure you have plenty of healthy snacks available.

4. Stay Hydrated. Drinking plenty of water helps the body work! It helps the digestive system work more efficiently to process nutrients while removing waste. It also helps the function of the immune system by preventing the buildup of toxins in the kidneys and the liver. The PiMag Waterfall® System takes tap water and filters it through an advanced filtration system reducing contaminants whilst natural minerals help adjust the pH to create alkaline water. Being gravity fed its perfect for any kitchen worktop.2

5. Get creative. Creative play isn’t just for kids. Journalling, sketching and painting are all great ways to boost mood and express yourself. You can start an on line group with your friends such as a book club or a knitting club. Creativity is for all ages, kids, parents and grandparents…

6. Make space for self-care. You can recreate a spa regime in the comfort of your own home. Adopting some self-care rituals around your beauty regime can make a real impact to how you feel. Bubble baths, at-home facials and some well deserved ‘me’ time will not only relax your body, but your mind too! Enjoy a body massage in the comfort of your own home with the Nikken MagCreator®. Relax while this magnetic roller rolls smoothly across and down the back.

7. Ground yourself. There is nothing to perfectly replicate the feeling that we get from soil, grass, sand or even the ocean floor underneath our bare feet, but there is something that comes close in its effect. Unload with the KenkoGround®. A conductive mat that serves to reconnect you with Mother Nature by connecting to the earth’s negative charge and works by reducing and neutralising unwanted positive charge – which our body absorbs from being surrounded by strong sources of electromagnetic fields (EMF) emitted from electrical devices such as computers and mobile phones.

All off these activities can help towards maintaining an Active Wellness lifestyle at home.

Basic Health Trends for 2019

Blog banner KVB

An increasing number of people are looking for an Active Wellness lifestyle. Here’s a look at some of the predicted health trends for 2019 and… how Nikken products continue to be contributors to these trends.

1. Adaptogenic herbs are finding their way into everyday food and drinks. Adaptogenic herbs can now be found in coffee bars and tea shops.Adaptogens are also found in KENZEN Cleansedx and in KENZEN Lactoferrin 2.0®!

2. New and improved gadgets are appearing to help us recover quicker from strenuous activities. According to CEO Martin Tobias of Upgrade Labs, “Modern recovery technologies use stronger signals like vibration, infrared light, targeted compression, intense cold, intense heat, powerful detoxification and advanced nutrition to speed recovery and development.”The KenkoTouch® and the MagCreator are the perfect products to help in the natural rejuvenation of muscle fatigue.

3. Last year, sales of plant-based meat (a vegetarian meat substitute) grew to 23% and is forecast to continue expanding in 2019. Plant-based dairy was 13% of all milk sales in 2018 and also expected to grow in 2019. Plant–based fish and seafood, which reported sales increase of 72% from 2017 to 2018, is predicted to really expand in a big way. PowerPlant Ventures says, “If awareness of the negative impacts of ocean fishing and contaminants spread quickly, plant-based fish could follow the plant-based meat market in its recent accelerated growth.”3

4. As awareness of the importance of sleep for overall health grows, people are tracking their sleep patterns to find ways to improve the quality of their resting hours. According to virtually every sleep expert, it’s important to maintain a consistent sleep-wake schedule including waking up and going to bed at the same time and not deviating too much on weekends or days off from work. At Nikken, we believe the Kenko Sleep System can help poor sleepers achieve their best rest!

5. Digestive health is set to become a significant trend in 2019. The Kroger Company states that “medical studies show that a healthy gut is the foundation of overall wellness and more than ever before, consumers are seeking foods that support self-care and healthy immune systems.”4 KENZEN Lactoferrin 2.0® and KENZEN Digestion Complex 4-20 can help support optimal digestion, nutrient absorption, the proliferation of good gut bacteria and overall health.

As we continue to live in a world where instant gratification is so desired, fast food is not going away. The good news is that there is a growing trend toward healthy eating in the form of meal replacement shakes, salads to go and nutrient-dense take-out food. According to Mintel, a market research firm that forecasts data for thousands of consumer goods markets worldwide, “On-the-go consumers are shopping for grab and go breakfasts, quick snacks and dinner time solutions. Consumers are expecting high-quality food and beverage options that fit into their fast-paced, time-crunched lifestyles without having to sacrifice health goals or flavour.”5

Look no further than KVB® Meal Replacement Mix – Chocolate (# 16011), currently on offer at ½ price, which can be a meal or a snack, depending on your needs. It’s convenient and versatile, suitable for vegans and contains MCTs for your brain! It is an instant meal that supports the GI tract with an enzyme blend combined with probiotics.

Magnetic Energy

Magnetic Energy blog heading

Magnetic energy is a key principle of both Far Eastern cultures and traditional Chinese Medicine. This principle has led to the development of practices such as acupuncture in the Western world. Nikken magnetic technologies have been developed for over 40 years to provide a carefully designed, supportive environment, and Nikken’s magnetic products are designed to fit easily into our normal day-to-day lives. This can be in the form of our Sleep System using products such as the Naturest® Kenkopad® or via special magnetic insoles – Kenko mStrides and Kenko mSteps™ or even harnessing this magnetic energy whilst sitting down in the form of KenkoSeat®.

The most recent development in magnetic innovation is represented by Nikken patented DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology (U.S. Patent No. 9,265,966). DynaFlux features a series of individual magnets within an organised structure that places them in polar opposition at several points. Positive or negative poles face each other. Interlocking construction holds these components in place to overcome the repulsion generated by this arrangement. Placing separate magnetic fields in opposition produces a multiplier effect with two notable results:

1. One result is that the magnetic field is intensified in each of these areas, providing 100 percent magnetic coverage of a complex field within a flat surface.

2. The other is a magnetic field that extends farther from the surface and increases the depth of penetration. This equates to increased gauss strength (measurement of magnetic flux density). Patented DynaFlux® Magnetic Technology is at the foundation of the KenkoTouch® .

The KenkoTouch® is a small handheld device that delivers pulsating magnetic wave therapy that may help relieve muscles discomforts. The massaging effect leverages the mechanical motion of strategically placed moving nodules; that produce a firm, slightly yielding sensation. The MagCreator® also harnesses magnetic technology to specifically target the back. The specially designed magnetic head is engineered to roll fluidly down the spine and may help soothe tired, tense muscles. The surface nodules add an extra level of massaging stimulation. This can be used either on yourself or on others for that extra level of relaxation.

The MagCreator® is currently available with a saving of 50%.
